Starting reseller hosting business.

April 5th, 2011

The world of reseller hosting may be a little confusing to some. Though with the right tips in hand anybody can be a reseller hosting success. In a nut shell, reseller hosting is a form of web site hosting where the account owner has the ability to use their allotted space and bandwidth to host their own or a third parties’ web site.  The account owner can sell the allotted space and bandwidth to the third party in question, and (in most cases) make a profit.

To help you get started in the world of reseller web hosting, here are a few tips you may look into or follow:

1. Act as a referral partner for the parent company.  This is a safe and easy option for reseller hosting, since it doesn’t involve you having to run customer accounts.  Instead, you earn commission for every customer you refer to the parent company who then signs up.  The downside to this option is that you need to have an online marketing presence, through a review website or ad campaign

2. Start small.  One of the great advantages of reseller hosting is that you only need a computer and an internet connection to get started – you don’t need to invest lots of money or get to grips with complicated technical applications.  For that reason, you should start by concentrating on reselling web space.  This is simple and straightforward, and a good way to earn whilst building a client base and gaining experience.

3. For the same reason, it’s also a good idea to start with shared hosting, since this is the simplest form of web hosting that you can resell.   As your business expands, you can look at offering more advanced reseller services, such as dedicated and co-located hosting, domain name registration and merchant accounts.

4. Work towards getting your own server.  This will give you a greater share of the profits over time.  However, it also involves greater responsibility for maintenance, back-up and repair, so you should only consider this option when you are confident that you can handle these technical requirements.

5. Don’t neglect your marketing and sales strategy.  Your reseller business won’t make money if nobody can find you.  So be very clear on who your target customers are, and how you can reach them.  This means constructing a well-optimized home site for your reseller hosting business, and running a well-targeted ad campaign.

6. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help, guidance and customer feedback.  There is plenty of free advice available on the web to help you decide on the approach that will best suit your purposes.  Remember, you may need to try several approaches before you find the reseller hosting strategy that works for you.

Web hosting review.

March 28th, 2011

We don’t want to blame any one; we want to give you an honest web host review, that makes sense to you before choosing a web host provider that is right for your business.

All web host are formed equal in our view, with the intention of or that used to be providing good hosting, until we got shut down without warning. It was very hard for anyone to understand how I might start a new website from scratch and eat up 40 Gigs of bandwidth in that short span of time (3 months, and I was shut down).

You should do a web host review, before you make a choice. The problem online today is, how can you make a sound web host review with all the thousands out there.

It is impossible to review the thousands of web host out there, but it is in your best interest if you base your web host review on high in demand providers. Many of the top marketers have their own server, and you can’t afford to pay $200 or more monthly for your own server.

For you to prevent web host shut down, you will have to learn how to use the forums to find recommendation for choosing your web hosting provider. We didn’t do our own research and that is why our web host shut us down without notice.

After being shut down, We went to forums, blogs etc. read a couple of post regarding on hosting companies, and realize that no one had any great experiences with that companies. They gave poor web host review grades for that host, well life is a learning process, and I know what not to do when choosing a web hosting provider.

Here are four tips you should follow to get a web host review:

1) Don’t ever go for unlimited domain names.

One other point worth mentioning, don’t ever go for unlimited domain names, whenever you create a new account they automatically divide up your hosting bandwidth. That means that if you have just 40 Gigs of bandwidth and you divide it up by four domain names, you have used up all your bandwidth.

So, any other new domain name you add will make you go over your bandwidth, please understand I am just showing you the rip offs that takes place with some low cost web hosting providers. They say that they will warn you when your exceeding your bandwidth, but they just never do. They make you pay extra for unlimited domain names, but you being new to the Internet, you won’t ever need more than three to six domain names to get you started.

2) Don’t go with any web hosting provider that requires the full amount in advance.

They offer low cost web hosting if you pay the yearly price in advance. Well, once you have paid for the year, you are tied to this company, should their service be not worthy, you will loose your primary yearly payment. Go with a company that has a 3 month or monthly payment plan, with a money back guarantee.

3) Test by sending a simple email to your web host first.

Just send off a simple email telling your web host that your interested in their hosting, this is a must for you to review web host that are unknown. The response time to your email will let you know what type of service they offer.

4) Ask for a charge back.

As you know, the client is supposed to be king, keep all your receipts in place, and should you ever be shut down by your web host after paying a yearly plan, just go to your credit card provider and file a complaint for a refund. Don’t let anyone scam you out of your money.

The final conclusion, your the one to blame if you get scammed, so make sure you follow these web host review tips before handing out your credit card.

Green web hosting.

March 24th, 2011

There is a recent rise in the popularity of Green Web Hosting because of the concern for the nature. Many industries have taken action and play their part in helping by reducing energy consumption and recycling. The same goes for the web hosting industry.

Recently even industries in highly commercialized countries have held meetings regarding the impact of Global Warming. The harmful gases produced from industries in clouds of dark black gases and ashes have caused a lot of ecological disasters. Therefore, industries have been asked to take measures in order to reduce the destruction caused by heavy industrialization worldwide. Similarly some web hosting companies have decided to play their part in preserving the ecosystem. When they join this cause – they are called “Green Web Hosts”. Firstly, let get a better idea about green web hosting. This type of hosting is a kind that uses nature-friendly power source for their daily activities. As we all know, servers are like appliances that requires electricity.

Not all companies have the resources to generate their own renewable energy. Therefore, those companies can turn to supplied energy by choosing to buy Renewable Energy Certificates. By doing this, they can get energy generated by wind, solar or even biogas. Companies that generate their own energy also use energy generated by either solar power, wind turbines or other methods. This gives them ability to power their machines with this renewable energy.
So, what does this entire means? It means that web hosting companies are saving the planet by reducing carbon emission. It also allows companies to purchase offsets enabling them to mitigate their own greenhouse emissions. So, this can ease the hosting company from starting their own wind farm or solar power generator.

Another added value that the green web hosting has is their special offers on packages to non-profit organizations. It is their act to not only encourages organizations to use web hosting but also encouraging the use of renewable energy and paperless working environment. Some web host with green hosting also provides web host services to companies that have telecommuting being used by their staff and workers.

However, does green hosting cost more? Well, this is a question that we all need to think deep about. Green we hosting companies may run at a higher daily operation cost compared to other web host provider companies but the idea of having a paperless company using renewable energy is something that is encouraging. With a single company operating in this way, it can reduce a whole lot of waste and reduce a lot on energy consumption which will directly help in preserving the nature. So, saving the earth does come with a price and it is not a big one to pay if you’re supporting a green web hosting company. Not only do you play your part in saving nature, you also get you web hosting needs.

There are several misconceptions on green hosting among the consumers. One of the mistaken beliefs that are prevalent among people today is that green hosting does not offer stable solutions. This however is far from the truth. You can confidently choose these services without having to worry about the stability or about the reliability of the services. Today the hosting services offered by green hosting companies are in par with companies that use conventional energy.

So go green put your hands together to preserve plant earth.

Reseller web hosting.

March 19th, 2011

In reseller web hosting, real hosts are able to generate bulk businesses and hand over individual clients to reseller servers. In turn, reseller web hosting businesses look after some individual client needs. This is a win-win situation for both, since real hosts will have an intermediary in the form of reseller web hosting to individual customers without having to attend to them one by one. The reseller is also able to put up a business and earn income without having to shell out capital expense. Although in some instances they do compete with each other for a fair share of the web hosting market, the real hosts can still benefit from this set-up considering they do charge a certain amount from resellers.

The services offered by a reseller web hosting service do not really differ from a real host. As a matter of fact, reseller web hosting offers more features to the customers. Due to the added value services, reseller web hosting can offer web design and programming services to each customer that are often times not possible from real hosts. Real hosts tend to focus on bulk accounts and corporate clients. Reseller web hosting offers value added services to customers in order to maintain a competitive edge against bigger web hosting services.

Reseller web hosting is also better able to establish friendly relationship with their customers that go beyond the contract terms. This is the secret for those successful reseller web-hosting services. They fill the need that bigger hosting servers cannot provide.

Benefits of reseller web hosting

The reseller web hosting concept is useful in its own way.  The usual hand out of resources for a reseller hosting option is possible through a partition of storage and bandwidth.  Of course some of the modern options make it possible to have “unlimited” resources but this can be limited in some ways and may cost much more to implement and have available.  The reseller hosting makes it possible to have several websites with separate IP addresses on a single hosting plan.

The other benefit that is available with reseller web hosting is the possibility of reselling the resources in the plan. A client using the reseller hosting that will not be using the entirety of the hosting can actually partition it and sell the hosting to a client underneath them. This makes it possible to have access to a possibility of making money as a small hosting company.  This makes the hosting economical in a way that it can be paid for by reselling the hosting to other clients.

In case the needs of the individual’s website(s) are the main concern whenever they are choosing reseller web hosting options. For sites that do not need to have as much dedicated resources available for them the use of reseller web hosting may be the best choice. Others which will require more performance and stability will want to be hosted through a dedicated option.  Budget may be a concern and a deciding factor for the client as well so choosing the option which is most affordable may be the course of action to take.

Advice on web hosting.

February 25th, 2011

Most web hosting companies today – including ones that are ‘green’ – offer their customers unlimited bandwidth and disk space in their web hosting packages.  This helps make the choice marginally easier when you are considering the many different options available.  You would think that a package offering unlimited bandwidth and storage would cost an arm and leg every month, but actually they don’t.  This is one less thing a newer to the web hosting world can stop worrying about.  If they use a company offering unlimited bandwidth and space, they will be able to handle as much traffic as they want.

Choosing the most appropriate web hosting solution is crucial to your business and success. I would like to be more particular on choosing the most relevant web hosting service depending on your needs.

There are too many sprouting and fly-by-night web hosting providers lurking on the web so it’s very important that you know who to trust and do business with.

Part of the challenge is choosing the right web hosting package or solution that exactly fits your needs.

Among the types of web hosting include Shared Hosting, which is the most cost-effective and popular package for bloggers; Dedicated Hosting which is more suited for bigger sites and for those who want full control, more flexibility, and responsibility for their websites. VPS Hosting however offers greater power and performance. Managed Hosting is rather suited for those less technically inclined but it’s rather expensive. Reseller Hosting is good for those with the entrepreneurial spirit.

Making a wise decision can be overwhelming at times given these many options. If you are on the edge of uncertainty you can head on to web hosting review sites for added guidance. It always pays to be informed.

Concern point

Transfer speed is something else a newer to the web hosting world will need to take into consideration.  Because a single server can be the home to thousands of websites at one time, the transfer speed could be lower than what you hope for when it comes to the loading of your website.  Of course, you could pay for a dedicated server but that costs a considerable amount of money.  One option that is open to you is using a virtual private server.  A VPS offers the user the same benefits as a dedicated server but without the cost involved.  VPS dedicated servers can accommodate thousands of websites but because of the way they are set up the resources are allocated to each site without having to ‘borrow’ from another one.

Finally, you need to make sure that the web hosting package you choose can accommodate any special software you want to use.  MySQL and PHP are not supported by every company.  You need to make sure that the host can support these programs, even if it means e-mailing them before purchasing a web hosting agreement.

4 stuffs Your Web Host Doesn’t Want You to Know

February 4th, 2011

Looking for a web host for your website? Ever feel like some of the things being promised are far fetch Check this list to see if your host has done this to you! And if they have: run, don’t walk… Get far-far away! There are plenty of web hosts in the market to not waste your time and money with the bad ones.

1. WE OFFER TERABYTES OF SPACE… ALL FOR $1 … WE GUARANTEED!!

You’ve seen all the offers. Tens of thousands of gigabytes.  Thousands of terabytes.  All for just a few dollars. Think it’s too good to be true? Well, it is. How do you think the hosts afford all that space? It’s a simple trick that is known as “overselling” in the web hosting world. Hosts sell 100x-1000x more space then they actually have hoping you don’t use it. And what happens if you start using it? Well if you read their terms of service, most of these hosts control your account based on cup usage. At the same time, “file storage” isn’t allowed. So as soon as you upload more than 1 GB, or get more then a few thousand visitors on your site, you will find your site gone. Of course none of the hosts want you to know this, so they hide it in confusing fine print and terms of service agreements. I hate to say it, but mom & pop might have been right… if it’s too good to be true, it probably is a scam.

2. WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR DECADES.

I find it funny how several well known hosts claim to have been around for “decades”. Another one boldly states “In Business since 1988″. I hate to break it to you guys, but there wasn’t really such a thing as web hosting back then. I’ve been involved in the hosting industry almost since the beginning, and I know for a fact there weren’t any $5/mon. hosts around in the 1980′s. Before believing a hosts claim, check the who is on the domain and see when they registered it. The funny part is that most hosts that claim to be more than 10 years old haven’t been around more than a 1 year! Obviously they don’t want you to know this, so do your due diligence and make sure you don’t get scammed by a fly-by-night host.

3.  WE HAVE OUR OWN DATACENTER – THOUSANDS OF SQ FEET

Face it, no matter what web host you go to, their site has pictures of huge datacenters, thousands of servers! Unfortunately, most web hosts are just “re-sellers”. Just people with some spare time that rent some space on someone’s server for $20/mon. and try to re-sell the space to a 100+ people. Best way to check? Ask for the address and other information on their datacenter. The trick here is that many hosts will give you the information of their providers datacenter (who they are renting from!), but if you are persistent enough and dig around you should be able to dig up the truth.

4. OUR HOSTING IS ONLY $5/MO – BUT YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP UNTIL 2050.

I don’t know what it is these days, but web hosting used to follow the logic of “what you see is what you get”. Now you have everyone advertising plans for $5/mon, but when you get to their website you find out its $20/month! What’s the deal?? Well it turns out that you need to sign up for 2 years, 3 years or even 5 years to get the “$5/mon”. Is it just me, or is that not $5/mon.? That would be $300/5years, not $5/mo! The worst part is that you usually don’t realize a host is doing this until you get to the final part in the check out. Do your research! Make sure when they say $5/mon. they mean $5/mon.! Not $300 for 5 years divided by 60!

Setting Default Page With Plesk.

February 1st, 2011

How do I set my default page using Plesk?

In the Linux world, you can use an .htaccess file to specify your default
page.

In order to do the same thing with Windows, you would need to use Plesk for this functionality.

You can set the order of pages searched for the index page by doing the
following:

* Login to Plesk
* Click your domain
* Click Web Directories
* Click Preferences

In the section labeled Documents, you can set the order of which files are
searched. If you want index.aspx instead of index.html, you would make sure that the index.aspx is listed above index.html.

If you would like a file-name that does not exist in the list to be your
preferred file-name, you can add it using this same section.

After making sure that the file-names are in the order you would like, the
selected page will come up in the browser if it is present in your files.

Be a successful web hosting reseller.

January 31st, 2011

Web hosting is an exhilarating first business scheme for many people, and while it might sound difficult to begin with; becoming a successful hosting reseller is actually a fairly simple process. In many cases, you don’t even have to do anything apart from sell the services of an established web host through your own website.

It is especially appealing to web designers and developers as an addition to your existing services.

The first step to becoming a web host reseller is to find a web host who offers several website hosting accounts. By taking out a several domain account, you can use one domain for the development of your own site and then set up other domains to clients’ websites. This enables you to pay a regular fee to the web host while charging clients any price you wish.

After setting up your domains to clients, it is preferable to have full administrative control over your clients’ websites. Ensure that your web host provides not only yourself with a control panel that features full administrative facilities to manage your account, but also provides your clients with their own control panel too. Perhaps the most important feature your web host should offer is the facility to hide your web host’s identity, preventing clients from knowing that you are offering a third party service.

It is also essential that your clients have a copy of your terms and conditions, which are vital in any business. While the writing of terms and conditions can be time consuming, many web hosts may let you copy theirs or supply you with terms and conditions specifically written for this purpose. It is also important to provide your clients with fast and reliable support, solving any problems that arise with their websites as soon as possible. Failure to do so will result in unhappy clients and it will also reflect badly on your other services. Tools such as white label guides offered by web hosts can help with this.

One of the best aspects of the business of reseller hosting is that you can start out on this business venture even if you do not have a great deal of expertise. It is also the case that there are times when a reseller can be more scalable than a typical hosting firm, due to true web hosts being limited in its hardware. If a client suddenly requires an upgrade that the host was not prepared for, it will have to go through the time consuming and costly process of upgrading its hardware. A reseller host, however, can simply choose a different web host that will better suit the needs of their customers.

Reseller hosting can be a great profit making venture once you’re up and running and understand the figures and profit margins involved. Buying web space from a major web host is relatively inexpensive and can be redistributed to site owners who need space for uploading their website at a suitable cost. What’s more, some hosts allow customers to oversell the space they buy and do not charge extra unless your account usage go above a certain level, while others offer unlimited web space and bandwidth at no additional cost.

It is said the average user uses less than half of their allotted web space, which means you could double or even triple sell your quota, earning considerably more money in the long run.

Dedicated Web Hosting.

January 31st, 2011

It is extremely important to recognize the concept of web hosting, even if you don’t know anything about it. When you visit a website, you will see a web page that is downloaded from a web server on your own web browser. Generally the website is composed of many web pages and web sites in turn are composed of graphic images and text. These web pages are stored on web servers so that they can be available to web users. It is good to have an understanding web hosting basics that will allow you to make the right decision when you purchase hosting plan. Often times, You May find everything from a dedicated web hosting provider, and the situation may require you to go to the custom server.

If someone wants to have its own website, it is the first time will have to have a host of services that will host Web sites on the web server. Web hosting provider that was well established, it can host many web sites, to thousands of items, for example, Version Next Technologies is a Web hosting company that is very popular and seats up hundreds of thousand pages. While the host of a large number of web sites, web hosting providers require a huge number of web servers to store Web pages. After that, all those web servers are connected to the Internet and are kept in a ‘data center’. Since web servers must work properly all the time, data centers are fully confident that it gives them 24 / 7 environment and protected from fire, virus detection, redundant power backup, HV AC temperature control, computer data backup, and full of opportunities for recovery in case of some fail.

Your website will need about 10 MB (for a small web site) to 250 MB (for large sites) on the server hard disk. Web-based records will enable you to manage your domain name, e-mail and FTP services, password protect directories, and much more.

There are some disadvantages to a dedicated hosting arrangement. You have to pay high monthly fees in exchange for their freedom and an exclusive web hosting. You will also have good technical know-how to run the server properly and resolve any technical problems that occur. It could be time-consuming, but if you hire someone to do it for you, you’ll have to pay for their services. This would mean that you now have the maintenance costs on the amount you have already, that will not be the case in a shared web hosting.

If a dedicated hosting plan is something you don’t like and want to go for a custom dedicated server, then keep in mind the following:

Data storage – this means the area of your website will need the server’s hard drive. It May ranges from a small town with 10 megabytes of storage for large business sites that require 250 MB or more.

Data transfer or bandwidth, which refers to the amount of data transmitted over electronic networks as a response to the demands of visitors. It depends on the size of your website and the flow of traffic to your site.

You would need a web based control panel too with the help of which you can manage your domain name, e-mail, FTP services, as well as password protection and much more.

When you decide to custom dedicated servers, You May want to include a private CGI-bin, which will allow you to run your own PERL scripts and executable s. With a custom dedicated server, it is also possible to get SSI (Server Side Includes) that you insert a file in your HTML pages on the server side.
