Web hosting review.

March 28th, 2011

We don’t want to blame any one; we want to give you an honest web host review, that makes sense to you before choosing a web host provider that is right for your business.

All web host are formed equal in our view, with the intention of or that used to be providing good hosting, until we got shut down without warning. It was very hard for anyone to understand how I might start a new website from scratch and eat up 40 Gigs of bandwidth in that short span of time (3 months, and I was shut down).

You should do a web host review, before you make a choice. The problem online today is, how can you make a sound web host review with all the thousands out there.

It is impossible to review the thousands of web host out there, but it is in your best interest if you base your web host review on high in demand providers. Many of the top marketers have their own server, and you can’t afford to pay $200 or more monthly for your own server.

For you to prevent web host shut down, you will have to learn how to use the forums to find recommendation for choosing your web hosting provider. We didn’t do our own research and that is why our web host shut us down without notice.

After being shut down, We went to forums, blogs etc. read a couple of post regarding on hosting companies, and realize that no one had any great experiences with that companies. They gave poor web host review grades for that host, well life is a learning process, and I know what not to do when choosing a web hosting provider.

Here are four tips you should follow to get a web host review:

1) Don’t ever go for unlimited domain names.

One other point worth mentioning, don’t ever go for unlimited domain names, whenever you create a new account they automatically divide up your hosting bandwidth. That means that if you have just 40 Gigs of bandwidth and you divide it up by four domain names, you have used up all your bandwidth.

So, any other new domain name you add will make you go over your bandwidth, please understand I am just showing you the rip offs that takes place with some low cost web hosting providers. They say that they will warn you when your exceeding your bandwidth, but they just never do. They make you pay extra for unlimited domain names, but you being new to the Internet, you won’t ever need more than three to six domain names to get you started.

2) Don’t go with any web hosting provider that requires the full amount in advance.

They offer low cost web hosting if you pay the yearly price in advance. Well, once you have paid for the year, you are tied to this company, should their service be not worthy, you will loose your primary yearly payment. Go with a company that has a 3 month or monthly payment plan, with a money back guarantee.

3) Test by sending a simple email to your web host first.

Just send off a simple email telling your web host that your interested in their hosting, this is a must for you to review web host that are unknown. The response time to your email will let you know what type of service they offer.

4) Ask for a charge back.

As you know, the client is supposed to be king, keep all your receipts in place, and should you ever be shut down by your web host after paying a yearly plan, just go to your credit card provider and file a complaint for a refund. Don’t let anyone scam you out of your money.

The final conclusion, your the one to blame if you get scammed, so make sure you follow these web host review tips before handing out your credit card.

Manner to ensure & secure web hosting.

February 22nd, 2011

If you want a secure and reliable web hosting, you must know some basic things before you confirm a particular web hosting company. The following tips are some of the simple methods to ensure reliable and secure web hosting.

You must select a web hosting company that has dedicated servers. See to that the company has established themselves as secure and reliable web hosting company. A reliable web hosting company must have more than five years of experience in the web hosting field. Only a reliable web hosting company can provide you with reliable and secure service that helps you to expand your website and its operations.

Normally, the web hosting companies offer domain registration. So you need to confirm whether the web hosting company is ready to register a domain name which you desire. The web hosting company must be ready to help you in domain registration.

Make sure that the web hosting company provides you affordable plan for hosting your website. See to that the web hosting rates offered by the web hosting company is affordable and minimal.

A secure web hosting company will regularly monitor security. But you must also ensure whether the company will continuously improve security measures so that it allows secure payments to the customers. Ensure that the web hosting company manages and protects their server by firewalls. This is because a firewall can protect server from any attack and ensures that your website remains functional. If you choose a reliable and reputable web hosting provider it will offer secure servers that cannot be hacked by anyone.

You must also ensure whether the web hosting company offers 100 percent server availability. A reliable web hosting service must provide you strong technical support and must guarantee minimal downtime so that your website will be always accessible to your customers. A reliable web hosting service must offer secure and fast server connection. It must also provide you email virus scanning and spam filtering options.

Make sure that the web hosting company conducts regular backups for its web hosting clients so that you need not worry about losing your website contents when your website collapses unexpectedly.

You must make sure whether the web hosting company will host your website on window or Linux operating system, whichever is best for your website. Since windows operating system and Linux operating system have their own advantages and disadvantages, you should identify the better operating system for your website.

Only if you choose a reliable and secure web hosting company, you can ensure that your website data is safe. Only then you can be sure to contact a professional support team when you face any problems with your website or reliable web hosting package. Once you are hosted on secure servers and have access to well-informed support agents, you can ensure that you are with the right web hosting company.

Your established Web hosting company must offer the most reliable and most powerful web hosting method at affordable price and lowest downtime rates. It must also offer a range of web hosting packages which suits your budget. The web hosting companies must not only offer reliable, secure and affordable web hosting, but must also ensure flexible services and packages that suits your growing business needs.

Most important factors.

December 28th, 2010

It is easy to overlook some of the most important factors when selecting a web host while paying too much attention on great features which you may not need at the start.

For example, most people judge a web host by the amount of disk space they offer. The thinking is generally, the more the better.

There are many other factors to take into consideration:

Tech Support- I don’t know about you, but I like the feeling of knowing that support is available when I need it. Test different companies before you sign up by sending them an email with a question or two. If they respond quickly, this is a good sign.

Uptime – The more uptime they guarantee the better. 99% uptime is the minimum acceptable standard. I look for 97%-99% guaranteed uptime.

Disk Space – Decide how much disk space you will require. A web page with one logo does not take up much web space at all. Calculate how big your web site is in relation to the disk space allotted.

Bandwidth – This factor is usually overlooked until the bandwidth limit is reached. If you go over your allotted bandwidth, you will get a hefty bill. If you are running a site with lots of downloads, or a site with lots of images such at a photo post site, your bandwidth will be a lot higher than a site with mainly text.

CGI Bin – This is now standard with good hosting companies. If you do not have access to your own CGI Bin, you cannot install scripts and programs.

Perl – If you do not have Perl, you cannot run Perl Programs. Many good scripts that you buy or get for free are written in Perl. In my opinion, it would be a limitation not to have the latest version of Perl installed.

SSL – If you intend to accept credit cards orders directly from your website, you will need Secure Socket Layer included in your plan. This is one of those easily overlooked features. You might sign up for a plan that looks attractive for whatever reason, then down the track, you might discover that you need this feature. If it is not included in your plan, you might be gob-smacked if the extra monthly charge is $10.00. To use this feature you need a merchant account. There is no need to make this a priority if you have no merchant account because you can use a third party credit card processor.

SSI – Server Side Includes are great if you want to spend minimal time updating your site. Here’s how it works. This page contains SSI’s. The left and right nav menus and the little search engine in the left nav menu are “included” with an SSI command in the master page template. If I need to update one of the nav links, there is no need to edit all the pages that contain the menus. I just edit the one page which contains the menu HTML and upload it to my site. It’s awesome.

MySQL – What scripts are you going to run? Some programs require a MySQL database to run. I had this problem with a particular webhost. They wanted to charge me $10.00 per month for a MySQL database. WOW. I just took out a new plan with another hosting company for under 10 bucks a month and 5 MySQL Databases are included in the price. Say no more.

PHP – Many new scripts and programs require PHP support. Again, this feature can be a $10 extra but most good hosts offer it standard. Imagine if you do not have PHP support but the latest new FREE top list, blogging script or shopping cart requires PHP. Again, this feature is almost standard these days.

Domain Name – What’s the point in buying web space if you cannot point your own domain name to the site? Some companies will help you register a domain name but you should compare prices and learn how to register your domain yourself. This way you are in control of your domain name if you ever change hosts.

FTP Access – Unlimited and unrestricted FTP access to your site is essential. You will need an FTP program to transfer files.

Control Panel – Not all control panels are the same. Some are easier to use than others. Some control panels the learning curve is steep while others are easy. If you select a plan where you cannot preview your control panel before you buy, you can always use the 30 day money back guarantee to get out if you are not happy. If they are not offering a working demo of the control panel, maybe they are not proud of it. In my experience, I have always been disappointed with the quality of the control panel when a demo was not available.

Statistics Program – A good stats program is handy if you want to keep an eye on how many visitors you are getting, where they are coming from, referrers, top entry and exit pages and so on. Some companies offer excellent stats programs as standard while others offer basic stats but you have to pay extra for advanced statistics. If you find a good hosting deal but the stats program is a bit basic, why not email the company and ask if they can install AWStats before you sign up. AWStats is an excellent FREE advanced statistics program.

The Role of Web Hosting in Education.

October 26th, 2010

Education means schools, and schools means teachers and notebooks ? Think again.

The answer is, NO. we have the Internet and web hosting services, which has transcended all borders. Now education has been made simple through web pages. This method definitely did not arrive with the advent of web hosting.

Today, the web hosting industry has helped several educational organizations grow. A few years back, we would have never thought that we could sit in India and earn a degree from America. But today, this is possible, thanks to web hosting and the Internet. To start with, many universities across the world have helped themselves by opening educational services through the Internet.

As web hosting is extremely cheap today, it is possible for anyone to advertise their universities, as well as gather students for their communities. Several thousands of people were in anguish, as either the cost factor would stop them, or immigration issues would stop them from attending foreign universities. Today with the help of web hosting, all students have to do, is enroll online.

The use of online legal education is a rapidly growing phenomenon in the World. The Independent Study Option (ISO) provides the opportunity and flexibility for both school-age and adult learners to study a wide range of compulsory optional print based distance education courses from Grades 7 to 12. This form of distance education also provides students with support by email or phone. The Independent Study Option also offers several courses in French. In the event that a student leaves the province on a temporary or permanent basis, the ISO also provides the opportunity for continuing the study en route to receiving a Senior Years graduation.

Not only can they study from the comfort of their homes, they can also learn in the universities of their dreams, and of course the flexible time counts too. For the universities, it has helped increase their strength, and also showcase their capabilities with the educational standards. The web sites also allow students from all over the world to interact.

Another advantage we can look at is the online educational material that is available. As mentioned, web hosting is cheap today, and thus there is plenty of information being posted every day through the Internet. Students may turn to this, as there is information which is not available in certain libraries too. The language is simple, and makes it easier for students to gather what they need.

Whether it is for projects or thesis, the Internet is available, and the web pages offer all the information they would be wanting. All this can be done from the comfort of their homes, and just a click of the mouse. There will be no long lines waiting for certain reference books at the library. The web sites have all the information of all the libraries in the world put together.

Another very interesting thing about web hosting, and what it has made possible, is the high speed communication through instant messaging, and also being able to speak through head phones at almost no cost. And what has this made easy? Those children, who are unable to find good extra coaching, are now learning online, in their free time.

Tutors are being found from all over the world, and they teach children through the Internet. The cheap resources through the web pages, has once again played an important role. And this time for a very important industry, the educational field. Thanks to the World Wide Web and web hosting, students can live their dreams across the world.

Web Hosting Instructions.

October 26th, 2010

Web domains-Hosting-Content. These are the three top priorities for any webmaster, regardless of how experienced they are. Unfortunately, these three essentials often leave people in the dark, as there are dozens of companies offering the “same” packages for different prices. With an overflow of routes you could take, it can get mind boggling to figure out the appropriate steps. For this reason, instructions are essential if you are looking for a smooth path.

The first thing you should do is make a list of what your current goals are. If you are making a professional site, you’ll need a secure and reliable host. For instance, if you know that your website will reach thousands of people within a few months, perhaps you should find a web hosting package that includes extra bandwidth. You need additional space, especially if visitors are constantly going to be accessing your website. On the other hand, if you are just experimenting, you should stick to the free hosting packages. Version Next Technologies certainly provides a basic package, which will leave you satisfied. After all, you do not need bells and whistles if you aren’t serious about the website in the long run. If you do end up changing your mind, you can always switch services and transfer your website.

Once you have made your decision, you need to find a reputable service. While searching for hosting companies on Google may seem appropriate, it often stems bad results. It is important to remember that just because it is listed on a search engine, doesn’t mean it is 100% safe and legit. Therefore, if you do find a potential company, you should get a second opinion. It is usually smart to join a webmaster related forum such as www.laibhaari.com/forum to discuss such matters. This way you can hear about other people’s experiences and what companies to avoid. Additional references from friends or family would also be ideal.

After picking a host, you will need to provide your credit card information. Surprisingly, there are discount coupon codes you can acquire through the internet, to also help you with your initial fee. Due to the fact that you have to include your private information, it is absolutely crucial to make sure you find a legit business. The last thing you want is to lose any money. Therefore, you should google their name and check out the reviews from fellow users. This will most definitely make all of the difference, especially if you find out that they are a fraud.

For website beginners, web hosting doesn’t have to be difficult or even too time consuming. As long as you find reputable sources, second opinions, and a great easy to use package, you are well on your way to website success. With these instructions in mind, there should be no frustrations or year long debates on what company to use. It is quite simple, once you get in the webmaster’s frame of mind.

Thinking Of Using Your Hosting Account For Backup? Think Again

December 9th, 2009

File StorageKeeping your data backups onsite can be risky. If there’s ever a fire or a robbery, you could lose both – your backup copy and your master copy. Of course, shipping your backup tapes or DVDs to an off-site location every day can also be inconvenient.

That’s why so many people today are choosing to send their backup data, over the internet, to an off-site storage facility.

Given that web hosting prices are so cheap, it can be tempting to use your web hosting account as an online file storage or backup device for your home computer. After all, you can now get unlimited disk space and bandwidth for as little as four dollars per month.

But before you start uploading the entire contents of your hard drive, there are a few things you need to keep in mind…

* Check the fine print in your hosting contract. Most web hosts have explicit clauses prohibiting the use of your web server as an online backup device.
* If you upload copyrighted materials to your web server, you face the risk of having your account suddenly terminated without notice.
* Is privacy important to you? Then you need to consider that files stored on your server can also be potentially accessed by nosy strangers online. This exposes you to the possibility of identity theft and privacy breaches.
* Because FTP doesn’t support block-level incremental uploads like an online backup service would, your backups will take forever to transmit. This could also slow down your internet connection and cause problems with your ISP.
* This method of backup only supports a single “point-in-time” file version. If you accidentally save over an important file or get a virus, you’ll have no way of recovering your data.

In recent years, a lot of new specialized online backup companies have appeared on the market. There’s such a wide range of price points and feature sets that you’re bound to find something that’s just right for your particular requirements.

In fact, many web hosts today also offer online backup solutions in addition to their regular hosting services. If you do a bit of research, you might even be able to get a special deal by bundling this software with your web hosting subscription.

This is a much better and safer alternative to the do-it-yourself approach.

Article Provided by Storagepipe Solutions. They provide email archiving and online backup software for businesses of all sizes. Storagepipe also offers reseller programs that allow web hosts to offer their own white-label online backup solutions.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Dedicated Server Hosting

September 25th, 2009

Dedicated Servers are seen as the best type of web hosting for people who are running large resource intensive websites that receive many visitors, as well as for people and businesses who need to be guaranteed a stable service that is more reliable than other types of web hosting, such as shared website hosting and VPS Hosting; this is because a dedicated server is yours only, meaning that you are not sharing it with anyone else, thus meaning that all the resources on the server are for your use only and can’t be used by anyone else, allowing you to ensure that you are able to provide a reliable and stable service. However, dedicated server hosting is out of most people’s price range for the main reason that dedicated servers are relatively expensive to get hold of, since they are physical machines, unlike VPS hosting for example where the servers are actually virtualized on a physical hosting node that is shared; this means that dedicated servers are only mainly used by businesses who have a large budget and want to ensure that their servers are stable, or by people who are running large websites that provide them with enough revenue to be able to justify and cover the cost of a dedicated hosting server.

The Dedicated Server hosting market has seen a boom in recent years, meaning that the overall costs of dedicated servers has been reduced, allowing people who couldn’t previously afford one to purchase one to cover their needs; this means that the overall number of dedicated servers being taken out with web hosts has increased, thus increasing the amount that web hosts have been earning, but also increasing the number of web hosts there are to choose from since many people have seen the advantages of starting a web host and have decided to do so. In order to use a dedicated server, you will need to ensure that you have the necessary knowledge to be able to administrate one with ease, this means that you should choose an operating system for your dedicated server that you are comfortable with during the order process, since getting used to the dedicated hosting environment will be much easier if you are using a familiar interface or system; it is important that you know what you are doing with a dedicated server since in most cases it is up to you to keep the server up to date and secure, to ensure that hackers and other malicious attackers aren’t able to gain access to it and exploit it.

You should also be familiar with the relevant dedicated server terms before purchasing one, so that you know if you are running out of a certain resource or so that you know what a problem is if something happens to go wrong with your server; this is because in some cases the support team of the web host from which you have purchased your dedicated server might only provide you with limited support, meaning that you should know the ins and outs of your server as to avoid any problems with it. You should ensure that what you want to use your dedicated server for is in line with your web host’s AUP (acceptable usage policy), since if any activities or actions that you carry on your dedicated server aren’t in line with it or are affecting the performance of other servers on the same network as yours, then your web host might suspend your dedicated server in order to sort out the issues; in most cases you aren’t allowed to use dedicated servers for free web hosting because of the high risk of system abuse that is involved, and you aren’t allowed to host warez or IRC servers either since warez are deemed as illegal, and in most cases IRC chats are used to discuss illegal activities which is why web hosts don’t allow them in most cases.

Dedicated Servers have many advantages over other types of web hosting, meaning that if you need the utmost reliability then you should consider a dedicated server for your needs, since it is something that should fit the needs of most people; the main advantage is that you aren’t sharing the server or resources with anyone else which is most people’s main reason for choosing dedicated server hosting.

Advantages of Dedicated Server Hosting

Dedicated server hosting has to be the best type of web hosting for anyone, since you are not sharing your server with anyone else meaning that you have complete use of all the server resources; this means that you can allow for your large traffic website to flourish in a dedicated hosting environment. If you run your own small hosting business, then you are also able to ensure your clients a high level of reliability and uptime, meaning that their websites will also be up and available; with other types of hosting you aren’t able to guarantee either of these factors since other websites and accounts could easily affect you.

Dedicated Resources

The main advantage of having a dedicated server is the fact that the server is all yours, meaning that you have complete use and control of the server’s resources since there is no one else on the same server to use them as well; this means that if you run a resource intensive website, or an application or service that requires high specification hardware, you are able to without disrupting anyone else and without anyone else disrupting you meaning that you are able to ensure that your website or server is reliable and always available.

Although with the lower end equivalent of dedicated server hosting, VPS hosting, you are given guaranteed resources that will always be available for your use, but the CPU of the main host node isn’t split between the VPS on the server equally in some cases, meaning that it is a resource which isn’t always guaranteed for your use; however, with a dedicated server you have your own CPU meaning that it is always available for use by you – you also have a choice of CPUs in most cases, meaning that you could have up to 8 CPU cores available for your own use at any time. Like VPS Hosting, you have your own dedicated amounts of RAM and bandwidth which you are able to utilize on your dedicated server; however, with a dedicated server, the amount of RAM that you have is actually physical meaning that you can easily have it upgraded – bandwidth is the same as a VPS server though, meaning that you can only transfer as much bandwidth you have each month – once you have used all your bandwidth up you will have to upgrade your dedicated server by purchasing more bandwidth.

Since your dedicated server is yours, no one else is sharing it with you meaning that the performance and reliability of it isn’t able to be affected by anyone else; the only way that your dedicated server can be affected by other people is if someone attacks the network which your dedicated server is connected to – for example, another server that is connected to the same network as yours might get DDOS’d, which can slow down the entire network, this will affect your dedicated server directly since any external connections to it will be very slow. In most cases, you aren’t provided with any sort of control panel to allow you to remotely manage your dedicated server, meaning that if it crashes you will have to get your web host’s support team to bring it back up again; it is for this reason that it is suggested that you use some sort of external monitoring system so that you are alerted when your server goes down, or when too much of a certain resource has been used.

Root/Administrator Access

Unlike other types of Web Hosting, except VPS hosting, with dedicated server hosting you are able to have root/administrator access to your dedicated server meaning that you are able to install and do anything you want within your dedicated server, allowing you to customize it to the way that you want it to be; this means that if you want to host a website or application on your server that requires you to have a certain component installed or for the server to be configured in a certain way which isn’t possible on other types of hosting, you are able to do so and at the same time are enabling your website to be more reliable by hosting it on a dedicated server.

Root/administrator access is needed on a dedicated server since it allows you to installed the programs that you need to ensure that your dedicated server is secure, and so that you are able to run what you want and use your dedicated server for what you want; you can also carry out custom configurations of certain programs with root/administrator access, meaning that you can easily change the configuration of a certain program if needs be. With root/administrator access, you are also able to easily manage and view the server resources, allowing you to monitor them so that you can take the necessary action if a resource was to get overloaded which could cause the server to crash, which is not something you want since you might not have the ability to restart it yourself; you could also deploy an internal monitoring system so that you easily view and manage your server’s resources without having to be constantly logged into it – this would also mean that you have the ability to view and manage your server’s resources over the internet from any location in the world.

In the case of a Linux dedicated server, you will be given ‘root’ access to it meaning that you will be able to manage it using the ‘root’ account, normally via the means of SSH meaning that you should be aware of the main Linux commands prior to purchase a Linux dedicated server; Linux server administration via the means of SSH is carried out through the use of unique commands, meaning that in most cases a GUI isn’t provided for administration access – however, in some cases a GUI via the means of VNC might be available for your use.

In the case of Windows dedicated server hosting, you will be given ‘administrator‘ access to your dedicated server meaning that you will be able to manage it via the means of remote desktop, for which a client comes pre-installed with the most recent Microsoft Windows versions; this means that if you have the Microsoft Windows operating system installed on your desktop computer, you will be able to interact with your Windows dedicated server via the means of remote desktop, meaning that you can easily manage your dedicated server using the Windows GUI.

Disadvantages of Dedicated Server Hosting

There aren’t really any disadvantages that you can directly apply to dedicated server hosting, which is one of the reasons why it is so popular with both businesses and individuals alike. The only factor nearest to a disadvantage that you could apply to dedicated server hosting is the cost of it; this is because dedicated servers cost quite a lot, compared to lower range hosting packages such as shared hosting packages an VPS hosting packages; the cost is only high because the server physically exists, and the original cost of the server for your provider was probably hundreds of pounds, and they need to make that money back in the short term, especially if they are providing many dedicated servers, otherwise they won’t be making any profit on each server. The arrangement that your web host has with their data centre can also affect the price of dedicated servers; this is because data centres charge a certain amount of each individual server that is hosted with them, to cover the cost of electricity, bandwidth and the rack space that has been filled – your web host has to deduct this amount from the cost of your dedicated server since they still want to maintain a profit from your server, but at the same time it needs to be located within a data centre so that it is connected to the internet.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if your website receives a large amount of visitors or is mission critical then Dedicated Server hosting is for you, for the main reason of the added stability which isn’t provided with lower range hosting packages such as shared website hosting and VPS hosting; this means that you are able to ensure that your important website is always available for your visitors, when with lower range packages it might not always be. The fact that your website will be more reliable is because you have your own server with its own resources that are not shared with anyone else, thus meaning that there isn’t anyone else or any other server that will be able to affect the performance of yours in any way; as mentioned previously, you have your own CPU unlike VPS hosting which doesn’t, meaning that your programs and services will always be able to process what they need to without the threat of not being able to because there isn’t enough CPU space available.

Although VPS Hosting does provide you with your own guaranteed RAM and bandwidth, the physical CPU isn’t evenly shared between all the VPS that are hosted on the server concerned, meaning that it only takes one greedy VPS to take the whole hosting node down by using up all the available CPU space; in the case of dedicated server hosting, the CPU is all yours meaning that it can’t be used by anyone else or by any other server – you also have the option to choose from dual or quad core CPUs meaning that you have the ability to give your dedicated server extra reliability.

As mentioned previously, the only way that another server is able to affect the performance of your dedicated server is if another server on the same network as yours was to be DDOS’d, meaning that you have that extra level or reliability and security when compared to other types of hosting; a DDOS would slow the entire network down meaning that all servers would be affected and no-one externally would be able to connect to the servers.

With a dedicated server, you are also given root/administrator access, allowing you to install any programs or services that you want, just as long as they are in line with your web hosts acceptable usage policy – you are also able to carry out custom configurations with root/administrator access, since your dedicated server is your own dedicated environment; with a Linux dedicated server you will be given root access via the means of SSH, and with a Windows dedicated server you will be given administrator access via the means of remote desktop – although the use of remote desktop requires that you have the Windows operating system in order to use the remote desktop client.
