September 17th, 2009

How do I Transfer my domain name to Ausweb Domains?

The first you need to do is to create a domains account. This is different from your hosting account, you can not use your hosting account user-name and password. To create a new Ausweb Domains account use the “Join Now” button at http://www.version-next.com. You will then be taken to the registration form.

After completing the “New Member Registration”

Your Member ID will be created automatically when you submit this form
You will receive an email from version-next.com.au notifying you of your member ID
You will be registered as the domain name owner
Your Username and Password is your key to easy domain name registration and maintenance
- keep them in a safe place, and keep your password secret

If you already have a domain account simply login with your username and password.

Once you have logged in go to “Manage Domain” then “Transfer From Another Registrar”

Before you can transfer a domain you need to check the following

  • Domain name ending with .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .au or .uk
  • AUSTRALIAN Domains ending with .au: When transfering .com.au .net.au or .org.au domains, you will also require the domain password, which can be retrieved by going to this link http://admin.auda.org.au/passwordMail/PasswordMail the password will be emailed to the current administrative contact for the domain.
  • Domain name must be at least 60 days old.
  • Domain names must NOT be expired.
  • Domain names must NOT be due to expire within the next 10 days.
  • The current owner/admin contact details with your existing Registrar must be current.
  • When the transfer is completed the domain name will automatically be renewed in the case of .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us and .info.
  • .UK domains require the IPS Tag to be changed before they can be transferred between registrars. The IPS Tag identifies which Registrar is to have authority for the record of the domain name. The current registrar must issue the IPS Tag change request for the client. Nominet, the .co.uk registry, then sends a confirmation email to the registrant for them to approve the change of IPS Tag. Once this has been done, the transfer request can be initiated from your account with VERSION NEXT.
  • .UK domain transfers will not be automatically renewed after the transfer is completed, but may be explicitly renewed (by you) anytime after completion but not more than 90 days prior to expiry.
  • .AU domain transfers will be renewed if not more than 90 days prior to expiry.
  • Existing time left prior to expiration from the previous registrar is simply carried over.
  • A domain name’s name servers are NOT modified during a transfer. If you need to change the name servers, this can be done once the transfer is completed.

How do I renew my domain

September 17th, 2009

ow do I renew my domain name while it is in the redemption period?

The Redemption Grace Period is a thirty (30) day period that begins after your domain name registration has officially expired. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has required that registries implement this facility to allow the original registrants (domain name holders) to redeem a deleted name.

The reason for the introduction of the RGP process is to provide additional time to catch erroneous deletions before the name is made available for re-registration.

When a name enters RGP, it is removed from the zone file (if it was originally in the zone file). As a result, any Internet services served by the domain name will be disabled (e.g. e-mail or a Web site). The registrant must act IMMEDIATELY if he or she wants to keep the name.

If you wish to redeem a domain name when it has entered the RGP you will will need to download the Redemption Grace Period Form from our downloads area.

Please note, the fee to restore a domain name in the RGP is USD $70. This includes a one year renewal.

Some customers who have .biz and .info names which have gone into redemption may be charged additional fees if their domain is registered with SRS Plus.

Once the domain is out of redemption there is a approximately 5 day delete period and then the domain can be registered again on a first come first served basis.

How to Park a Domain Name

September 17th, 2009

The main reasons for parking a domain name include – giving your website a number of domain options – you might be registering several similar domain names that you want to all point to the same website and hosting. Or maybe you just want somewhere to park a separate domain name you’ve registered that you don’t wish to purchase a separate hosting plan for but would still like to use this domain for email addresses.

Parking a domain to your account will give you another address by which you can access all of your hosting services ie. your website, FTP, email addresses etc.

For example, if your website’s domain was yourdomain.com and your email was you@yourdomain.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and you choose to park yourotherdomain.com to your account – then your site will also be accessible from this domain. Any emails sent to you@yourdomain.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or you@yourotherdomain.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it will reach the same inbox.

To park an extra domain name to your account there are two simple steps.

  • Step 1. Update the Name Server information of the domain name you want to park, to the Name Servers of your VERSION NEXT Hosting Account.

If the domain you wish to park has been registered through another domain registrar, you will need to visit them and use the domain management tools and login they have provided you. If you have registered the domain through VERSION NEXT you can update the name server info of your domain name by logging into your Client Area and selecting My Domains to visit your domain management page.

Please be aware that due to propagation, changes to DNS entries can take up to 24 hours to spread globally across the internet.

  • Step 2. Login to your account’s cPanel page – http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
