In connection with high technological advancement and state of the art computer upgrades we are always face with ever recurring problems about computer security. It ranges from simple computer malwares or spywares you get while surfing the internet to more destructive computer viruses that leads to hacking your personal files, identity theft or destroying your computer hardware.

We cannot stop computer problems from sprouting but we can prevent them. How? By having our computers equip with these programs. These are 3 of the most important security software you should have in your PC

1. Anti-virus Programs

There are paid or free A.V. programs available nowadays. Free versions have limitation but some of them are enough to keep malicious threat from entering your system. Try downloading Avira, Avast or AVG. They have paid and free versions although free version is enough. You only need to update your virus database frequently.

2. Anti-Malware / Spyware

Do you use the internet often? If yes then you should install anti-malware programs and spyware software in your system. Anti-virus is good but having anti-malware program is even better. Search for free versions like Malwarebytes at CNET downloads. The free version of this program works great.

WordPress as a CMS

1. Cheap or Free
Using WordPress for your website means it’s cheap or free. WordPress itself is free, a theme is easily under $100 or even free and you save loads of money (compare the cost of template vs custom design). Haven’t you heard? Stingy is in.

2. It’s That Easy
If you’ve got any computer savvy, WordPress is easy to use. If you can send an e-mail, use Microsoft Word or set up a Facebook account, then you can use WordPress. And normal use doesn’t run the risk of mucking up the design. It’s website creation for non-techies.

3. Do It Yourself
With WordPress you enter the Do-It-Yourself world. No more waiting for and paying a programmer to fix a tiny error, saving you time and money.

4. Many Users, Many Places
WordPress is online and offers multiple users, which means you’re not the only one who can fix something in a pinch and you can access it from anywhere. Which means if you’ve got Internet access in Tahiti, you could work from there. That also means your important site is backed up on a secure server with multiple redundancies, not some high school kid’s laptop.

5. Climb the Search Results

WordPress also makes it easier to optimize your search engine results. That means your site is more likely to land on the first page of Google results, which means people are more likely to find yo

Features and Benefits of WordPress

Here are also not a million other files for you to upload. This system is easy to download, and easy to upload to your own personal websites. WordPress is built to W3C standards for XHTML and CSS. These features make WordPress code easier to manage and easier to render in standards-compliant browsers. Non-compliant browsers are made compliant with only a few changes.

WordPress websites also have some very positive features like themes, non-compiling changes to the website and the ability to utilize plugins. The most positive factor in the WordPress utility is that you do not need to know php. With many blogging systems you often need to know how to program. With Blogger, I spent hours embedding Google ads in the pages. Also when I made changes I had to recompile the script or “rebuild” it. This took time while I waited. Imagine how much time you can spend “rebuilding” dozens of blogs! In each blog I modified each blog and linked it to my central website. Linking blogs that get regular traffic is a technique called “hub and spoke” theory.

In this scenario, you have to see how you can arrange your blogs to produce traffic for a central website. This is an excellent tool to produce income for your business. WordPress has the potential to be the perfect tool for your business to generate an average level of traffic to a central website. The relative advantages are:

  1. You don’t have to know php.
  2. You don’t have to know how to program at all.
  3. You don’t need to use the WordPress hosting service. Although this is offered, it is not necessary.
  4. WordPress has aggregator support for standard RSS configurations. This has already been done with Atom.
  5. WordPress automatically connects and configures with MySQL with virtually no effort.
  6. Being built to standards increases WordPress’s longevity and future internet adoption
  7. WordPress automatically imports images.
  8. The WordPress template has built-in links added in the template.
  9. WordPress allows for the customization of metadata.
  10. WordPress allows customized styling for printing.
  11. WordPress allows the administrator to design headlines.
  12. WordPress allows for categories.
  13. WordPress allows for customization of the sidebar.
  14. WordPress allows for customized RSS Feeds.
  15. WordPress allows for customized forms.
  16. WordPress allows for basic blogging posts.
  17. WordPress allows archiving for posts.
  18. WordPress allows for contacts in the template.
  19. WordPress allows for an “about” page.
  20. WordPress allows for the styling lists and is built with CSS.

What’s The Difference Between “On Page” And “Off Page” Site Optimization?

April 23rd, 2010

Category: web Hosting,web Directories

The terms “on page” and “off page” are two important words to familiarize yourself with if you’re new to the art and science of search engine optimization. They are an integral part of the SEO process used to increase website traffic. Although there’s a big difference between the two, you must understand these optimization techniques if you’ll be leveraging SEO as one of your tools for online promotion of your growing business to drive more traffic for your website.
On Page optimization is the foundation for your SEO process by which elements of your web site are designed in a way that it qualifies for a high ranking when specific keywords are typed. Off Page optimization, on the other hand, as the name indicates, is the work that needs to be done off the pages of your website. This is done to improve your web site’s search engine page rank and increase your web site traffic. On Page optimization by itself will not guarantee that your website gets good ranking unless performed in concert with off page optimization strategies. This means, both on page and off page optimization techniques need to work hand in hand for you to get the results that you want.
On Page site optimization – Deals with Internal linking (linking pages of your site to one another), your web site coding, creation of a sitemap and good quality content. Optimizing also includes identifying the target keywords or keyword phrases that your target customers are searching for. These keywords should be included in your web site’s URL, title tags, Meta tags, headlines, subheadlines and body text. Next, internal linking is done between the pages of your web site whenever required to make it more attractive to Google. All of the major pages of your site should be linked to your homepage. The creation of a sitemap is needed so that all your web pages get listed by the search engines. In addition, good quality content is absolutely vital to get the most out of the search engines. Your site content should have compelling information that is written to appeal to your customers first and the search engines second. Lastly, ensure that your html code is error and warning free.
While the above mentioned On Page factors are needed for on site optimization, the following factors should be avoided: Don’t use “black hat SEO techniques” to increase your serp (search engine result page) rankings> For example, hiding links or text by making them the same color as the background of your web pages. This is cheating as you’re trying to hide or conceal something from your viewers solely for the purpose of increasing your search engine rankings. Also, make sure that you don’t create mirror sites, or two different sites, one for the search engines and the other for your site visitors. You should have only one site. These tactics very well may cause your web site to be “banned” by the search engines. Also, avoid posting duplicate content as much as possible. This means both NO Plagiarism, unless you give a credit to the original source, as well as not posting identical information on your web site as you do on your blogs and other sites. Simply change the wording around of the content when posting it on your web site if you’re also posting it on other sites.
Off Page optimization, on the other hand, are the techniques which are done off of your web pages to improve your search engine page rank as well as your web site traffic. These include: building quality links, link popularity, relevancy, directories and social bookmarking. Building quality links for link building purposes which include industry relevance, page rank and authority sites. Link popularity can be completed by using social networking sites, blog commenting, forum postings, articles, press release promotions, directory submissions, link baiting, classified ads, and back links from social bookmarking sites. The last factor of off page optimization is to have high quality, informative and organized content for visitors to which they will have easy access such as blogs and article directories.
In simplest terms, on page optimization includes all the activities done on your web site while off page optimization are all the activities that take place off of your web site. Having an effective strategy that leverages both will improve your search engine rankings and drive highly targeted relevant traffic to your web site.

Web Site Structures-Advantages and Disadvantages

April 23rd, 2010

The three web site structures discussed in this passage would include linear, hierarchical, and mixed structures. A linear structured web site is set up identically to an ordinary book. In order to navigate its contents the user must essentially flip through each page, one at a time to move forward or backwards. In the case of the linear web site this would be done by clicking links. The advantage of this method is that it is very organized and the data flows in a sequence. The disadvantage is that to navigate several pages backwards of forward the user must move one page at a time.

Within a hierarchical web site structure the user can view a list of the sites contents and click on links to specific areas of the site. Once arriving at that specific section of the site, there might be further links to navigate to specific areas of the selected topic. The advantage of this method is speed of navigation. A visitor to the site can get exactly where they need to go quickly; the disadvantage is that it is easy to get lost within the site. The users might find themselves bouncing from one topic to the other.

Mixed structure websites utilize attributes from linear and hierarchical methodology. The website might continue to utilize a “table of contents” feature which allows for quick navigation through the site. Once arriving at that area the user might have to continue by means of linear navigation to progress forward. The advantage of this set up would be ease of navigation to a specific area of the site and to make sure the user stays on track. The disadvantage is that once the user arrives at the area they were interested in, they are forced to navigate slowly and lose the ability to jump around.

Types of scans

April 23rd, 2010

Types of vulnerabilities for which VS software scans can include:

  • Open (“listening”) ports
  • Unnecessary services
  • DDoS agents and similar malware
  • Means of remote access (terminal services, PCAnywhere)
  • Password crackers
  • System configuration errors/unsafe configurations
  • Coding flaws/unsafe code
  • Missing service packs and security fixes

Vulnerability scanning usually starts with a “discovery” phase, in which active devices on the network are identified and information about them (operating system, IP address, applications installed, etc.) is collected. Good scanners include a reporting function that allows you to prioritize information and customize reports to fit your needs.

Be aware that scanning the network uses network bandwidth and system resources and thus can slow performance when used during productivity periods.
